It’s about Water / Installation. Oil Painting
Avant-Garde. Modernity. Digital photography and photo edition. Not to mention the visual revolution and the madness of September 11th. All this offers the art of the ending of a century to Alfonso Rosas. And artist from Hermosillo that has a degree in Graphic Design and has been developing his creative talent for 15 years.
Alfonso Rosas belongs to the new generation of artists that are reconciled with painting. Paintings that are enjoyable, with aesthetics, that is beautiful just as you approach to observe it. Simbolic, enigmatic, that invites you to stay in order to understand it. And at the same time easy to interpret, manageable, recognisable in your memory once you leave it. Maybe because it is really narrative, it is a story in color that most of us can integrate to its own story.
The things that Alfonso has to express are not always pleasant, as our reality, he paints old and homeless people, sad girls and farmers, that are part of any world even if we do not want to see them. And he presents them just as they are, as a part of a whole, with a holistic vision that only an artist certain about a future can see: as a kaleidoscope
It represents a conquest of his own territory, his own story, his own language with his own weapons. A language were technology is necessary. In 16 meters of oil on paper, Alfonso Rosas found his way using as his guide the light of a projector connected to his computer.
The complexity of this art piece is visible, but in this case the hard road of the execution is defined first by the intellect. The time used in the collection of images in order for them to be mixed by the memories and the hallucination of the artist in front of the omputer is similar as the time spent with a paintbrush in his hand. The images of the present, past and future are mixed in the images of two worlds: the real one and an unreal one.
It is in the center of the installation “It’s about water” where we can observe in a tv a video of an open faucet. We see the water fall to a container that communicates to the whole art piece through water pipes. The sounds are those of the artist , they are never ending sounds as is the reaction of the observer.
Alfonso Rosas believes in brief art, he believes in art that can be observed through all our senses, he believes in the installation as a viable answer to his aesthetic proposal.
